September 2023; weitere Informationen: https://www.umweltbundesamt.de/europaeische-mobilitaetswoche).

Five areas of life and one core message.

The Velcro fastener, individual varifocals, the daily weather report, live broadcasts on TV and navigation systems: these and many other innovations would not be possible without space technology or space research. The interactive special exhibition “ALL.TÄGLICH!” at the Mercedes-Benz Museum makes the wide-ranging transfer of technology from space to earth tangible. It can be experienced free of charge from 7 June to 15 October 2023 in the Fascination of Technology area on Level 0.

Research in the field of space flight, along with research undertaken in space, is key to innovations that also have many direct uses for life on Earth. These developments are already having a significant impact on our lives today. The special exhibition shows this by means of these thematic fields:

  • Living and working
  • Health and nutrition
  • Travel and leisure
  • Mobility and communication
  • Knowledge and education
More than 40 technologies and applications.

More than 40 innovations, technologies and applications exemplify that investments in the space technology sector are also investments in the future of all of us. They show that developments in the space sector are an indispensable driver of innovation, and how they open up new markets. Just a few examples:

  • Weather observation from space. For decades, satellite images have been helping to provide reliable weather forecasts. The images are getting better and better and thus also the forecasts.
  • Agriculture seen from above. Allowing fields to “speak” means that agriculture can be practised in a sustainable way. Satellites analyse farmland and ensure better harvests.
  • From “seasick astronauts” to better vision. When eyes are lasered, the location of the pupil must be determined with absolute precision for perfect control of the laser. The eye-tracking technology used was developed in Germany for the space flight sector in order to better understand the sense of balance.
  • “I’ve got backache”. Back pain due to weightlessness? For many astronauts, unfortunately, this is a common problem. They are helped by a spinal movement measuring device, which is also proving useful to patients here on Earth.

The exhibition was conceived as part of the INNOspace initiative of the German Space Agency at DLR (German Aerospace Centre). This promotes cross-sector transfer of knowledge and technology and supports those involved in the space sector with the challenges of the NewSpace Economy. The INNOspace initiative was launched in 2013 by the German Space Agency on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). The Agency, in turn, is part of DLR. Designed as a travelling exhibition, the INNOspaceEXPO is entitled “ALL.TÄGLICH!”. It has already been seen at many venues throughout Germany and in other German-speaking countries since 2015. It was hosted previously in Stuttgart in 2016 at the “Haus der Wirtschaft” exhibition centre.
