Solitude Revival.

With its commitment, Mercedes-Benz is calling to mind the long and intensive relationship between the brand and the race track. This involves, in particular, appearances by famous racing cars like the Mercedes-Benz model S from 1927 and the AMG 300 SEL 6.8 (static) derived from a luxury-segment saloon in 1971 plus the DTM Safety Car used by Mercedes-AMG as a pace car; driven by Jan Seyffarth and a further privately operated 'Red Pig'.

The festival of automotive classics starts on the Friday (21 July 2017) at 2 p.m. with a presentation of the participating vehicles at the Glemseck. On the Saturday and Sunday (22/23 July 2017) at 9 a.m. on both days there will be numerous parades of classic cars and motorcycles on the 11.5-kilometre circular route. It consists of public roads which have been closed for the Revival – as at the races held until 1965 on the Solitude-Ring.

A piece of Mercedes-Benz brand history.

In the drivers' paddock at the fifth Solitude Revival, Mercedes-Benz will be demonstrating its links to this historic circular course with numerous vehicles plus Intelligent Drive (rides in the autonomous vehicle) and at the Seehaus with lots of attractions on themes like 50 years of AMG. The intensive relationship between Mercedes-Benz and the track named after the hunting lodge of the Dukes of Württemberg is older than the brand itself: as far back as 1922 the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) began entering its Mercedes racing cars in hill climbs at the Solitude. The first circuit was opened in 1925. And it was only the year after that the fusion of DMG with Benz & Cie marked the birth of today's Mercedes-Benz brand.

Mercedes-Benz and Solitude.

One of the most successful racing cars of the initial Mercedes-Benz years was the model S (W 06), which was used for the first time at the Solitude precisely 90 years ago. This year one of these legendary vehicles will be starting on the triangular course at 9 a.m. (warm-up drive) and 12.55 p.m. on both the Saturday and Sunday (driving demonstration).

1923: class win for Rudolf Caracciola in his second race for Mercedes.

1924: class win for Adolf Rosenberger with the Mercedes 1.5-litre Kompressor racing car.

1925: first 'Solitude rally' race. Class wins for Otto Merz with the racing cars up to 2 litres displacement (Mercedes) and Adolf Rosenberger with the cars up to 8 fiscal hp (Benz).

1926: the first appearance by Alfred Neubauer as the racing manager at the 'Solitude rally'. Willy Walb won the class of sports cars over 5 litres displacement with a Mercedes-Benz model K.

1927: class wins with Mercedes-Benz model S for Otto Merz (racing cars over 3 litres displacement) and Willy Walb (sports cars over 5 litres displacement).

1937: Hermann Lang, winner of the Tripoli Grand Prix, presented the W 125 Silver Arrow at full speed in the Solitude race.

1953: test and training drives by Mercedes-Benz prior to the 1954 race season. Hans Herrmann, the youngest of the drivers, set the fastest time of the day.

50 years of the culture of sportiness.

At the Solitude Revival Mercedes-Benz is also marking the 50th anniversary of the performance brand AMG. Founded in 1967 by Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher as an engineering office, the company is today a fully owned subsidiary of Mercedes‑Benz Group AG. AMG represents an extensive offering of high-performance cars in virtually all the Mercedes-Benz model series, for the development of its own super sports cars and for the Stuttgart brand's successful presence in motorsport.
