Learning by playing.

Learning new things and understanding scientific connections? A really effective way to do that is by playing and experimenting, which is exactly what the “Experience generates knowledge” event aims to do from 3 October 2020 at the Mercedes-Benz Museum. For the exhibition, you need a free daily admission ticket, available at the box office desk.

From the balance bike and the ball games to the knowledge twister: The interactive exhibition consisting of a total of six stations and covering 240 square metres of space has been designed by experimenta Heilbronn exclusively for the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. The guest exhibition is also a showcase for the Science Centre to demonstrate the many opportunities offered by the knowledge and discoveries that shape its world.

The Mercedes-Benz Museum and experimenta intend to work closely together in the next two years. As part of this cooperation agreement, the Mercedes-Benz Museum is currently showing a key exhibit of the history of mobility from the museum’s own collection in Heilbronn: The first car ever produced in the world – the Benz Patent Motorcar from 1886 – a replica of which can be seen in the experimenta.

A showcase for experimentation: The six stations of the hands-on exhibition “Experience generates knowledge” in the Mercedes-Benz Museum open up a view of scientific contexts through playful interaction.

Air experiments.

Light as air? Through the experiments in the air labyrinth, visitors to “Experience generates knowledge” can discover the diverse properties of the gas mixture that surrounds us. And because we can’t see the air itself, the air will transport coloured rags through the station’s tubes in this experiment. The aim of the exercise is to help the coloured rags find the right path through the labyrinthine arrangement by guiding them very accurately.

Aiming the air streams through the labyrinth is great fun. Learning through playing works by combining the elements of fun and gaining knowledge – and that is exactly what the focus of the experimenta in Heilbronn is. Germany’s largest Science Centre offers around 275 interactive stations and much more.

Body talents.

With regard to hygiene measures and the containment of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, you cannot experience the exhibit at this time. Of course, we offer you a replacement station: With “Strippenzieher”, you discover what is possible when you work together as a team.

Get pedalling: At body talents you discover your personal motor skills.

Ball games.

Marble runs are based on basic physical principles, but at the same time they are fascinating mechanical works of art. The hands-on exhibition does not merely let the marbles roll – it uses intelligently designed mechanisms to control them. Discover it for yourself: You can see here live how the Archimedean screw conveys things. This screw is not a fastener, but you’ll see right away why it is called by that name.

Playing with gravity: The marble run and its ingenious mechanisms invite visitors to make discoveries.

Creative images.

This station adds colour and movement to the visitors' shadows. This activity has great creative potential: After all, there are reasons why shadow theatre has been inspiring people down through the centuries. Your opportunity: Use light to create your own personal image of yourself. You can take the result home with you.

From a simple shadow to an individual work of art: At this station, visitors present themselves using light, colour and movement.

Team spirit.

A racetrack like this is a lot of fun – especially if you finish first, but sometimes success is best achieved through cooperation. This is shown by this station in “Experience generates knowledge”. This is because each player can only perform one activity – which alone is not enough to reach the finishing line in one lap. Your task is to show that you – as a team – can complete the challenge.

Circuit for team players: This station of the hands-on exhibition shows how important cooperation is – not only on the race track.

Knowledge twister.

The knowledge twister is a quiz about science and technology. The connections between individual facts and details are often absolutely fascinating. The real challenge is that you do not just have to know the right answers – you also have to keep track of the answers on the game board.

The interactive exhibition “Experience generates knowledge” is open to visitors of all ages. The six interactive stations are located in the “Fascination Technology” section on level 0 of the museum. A visit to this exciting journey through the world of science and technology is free of charge.

Kraftstoffverbrauch kombiniert CO₂-Emissionen kombiniert Stromverbrauch im kombinierten Testzyklus

Product may vary after press date on 01.10.2020.
