The figures presented include racing driver Roberta Cowell, King Charles I of Württemberg and King Frederick the Great of Prussia, writers Simone de Beauvoir and Selma Lagerlöf, British mathematician Alan Turing, actor Greta Garbo and singer Freddie Mercury. Alongside their social significance, all of them are connected by the fact that they were “queer”. The portraits of the protagonists of the exhibition were made by many notable artists such as Anne Bengard (Berlin), Gerda Laufenberg (Cologne), Ralf König (Cologne) and Robert W. Richards (New York). Be it ink, acrylic, stencil, drawing, cartoon or illustration: the artistic techniques are as varied as the celebrities that are represented. The artworks are displayed as barrier-free banner pillars.
