• Dialogue with the future.

Cultural exchange.

The daily task of the designers at Daimler Design is to create vehicles that some years later will turn heads on the roads. Their colleagues in the five Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studios journey even further into the future. They often think a decade or more ahead.

They don’t just have the domestic market in mind, but also incorporate new trends from other continents and cultures. Their task is to think globally into the future, to care about cultural exchange and to use trend research.

Advanced Design Studios around the world.

For this reason, four of the five Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studios are outside Germany. The aim is to not just chase fashion trends, but to identify long-term trends to increase the value of the Mercedes-Benz brand over many decades and develop ideas to satisfy the highest demands in terms of technology, performance, comfort and safety. The Advanced Design Studios are creative spaces where designers can think freely without immediately having to consider series production.

Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Mercedes‑Benz Group AG, is responsible for all the studios. The Advanced Design Studios are located in Sindelfingen (Germany), Como (Italy), Beijing (China), Carlsbad and Sunnyvale (California, USA).

Design situation in the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studio in Sindelfingen, Germany.

In Sindelfingen elements come together.

The Como studio specializes in future vehicles' interiors, primarily as a result of its location within the famous triangle between the cities of Como, Milan and Turin. The Advanced Design Studio Beijing plays a pivotal role in terms of new mobility concepts and collaborations. While the designers in Carlsbad focus on the exterior of the vehicles of tomorrow and beyond, the team at the Advanced Design Studio in Sunnyvale shapes the digital future as well as holistic interfaces for vehicles. All creative elements then come together in Sindelfingen.

The Advanced Design Studios provide paramount impulses to keep developing the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy of sensual purity and carry on setting design trends with new ideas to make future Mercedes models appear sensual and aesthetically pure with a sporty style without denying their heritage and brand identity. For them, the future is happening now.
