• Sensual purity and a modern aesthetic: the new GLC.

Visually, the body follows the clear and sensual design idiom which was demonstrated so successfully by the GLC Coupé show car concept in the spring.

An SUV that fits the bill to perfection.

“Like every new product from Mercedes-Benz, the GLC embodies our successful design philosophy of sensual purity. Its styling focuses on the paradigm shift from angular forms towards a contemporary luxury. Above all the exterior design, with its sensual surfaces in combination with clearly drawn feature lines and expressive proportions, shows that the GLC's new stylistic direction radiates not just intelligence, but also emotionality”, explains Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG. The dynamic design arouses emotions while at the same time playing with puristic forms. Even so, the GLC distances itself only visually from its forefather, the G-Class. Technically, it scales new heights on every front, with the off-road qualities of the mid-size SUV still pre-eminent.

Headlamps with night design.

With its short, crisp overhang and upright, three-dimensional radiator grille with twin louvre and central Mercedes star, the typical SUV front section conforms to the new successful design line. Exuding an even stronger presence with their unmistakable night design, the distinctive headlamps – optionally available as LED High Performance headlamps – give the GLC a self-assured look. The view from the side is dominated by the almost coupé-like greenhouse, which combines with the 118 millimetre longer wheelbase to lend the GLC an elegant, sleek silhouette.

This impression is additionally reinforced by the brand-typical, gently sloping dropping line and powerful shoulders.

Muscular shoulders.

The side view of the vehicle is further vitalised by the lower, rising feature line. Distinctive, matt black cladding on the wings, up to 20-inch wheels and optional side running boards provide clear pointers to the GLC's off-road credentials. The rear end is defined by broad, muscular shoulders, horizontal contour lines and split LED tail lamps with their equally unmistakable night design. Like the front section, the rear end also features a distinctive bumper. A stroke of technical wizardry has dispensed with the need for the previously customary roof fin, with all antennas now being integrated into the exterior mirrors and the roof spoiler.

The model change also signals a marked upgrade for the interior. A modern setting prevails which is quite in keeping with the standard set by its bigger brother, the GLE.

Sensual purity. Dynamic sportiness.

A reinterpretation of contemporary luxury, the new design idiom unites sensual purity with dynamic sportiness. Employing high-grade materials of a hand-crafted character, such as nappa leather and open-pore wood trim, precision-engineered details and pleasing tactile qualities, the interior of the GLC creates the brand-typical feel-good atmosphere. For Mercedes-Benz, intelligence always goes hand in hand with emotion. By virtue of its design philosophy, the GLC sets an emotive tone while at the same time visibly gaining in functionality. Now offering considerably more room for passengers and luggage, the classy interior is additionally characterised by premium materials and a progressive sportiness.  The highlights of the redesigned passenger compartment are the dashboard and the flowing lines of the centre console, where a large, one-piece dome plate extends elegantly from the centre air vents to the armrest.

Puristic modernity.

The clear lines produce an open sense of space while conveying a puristic modernity. With its contemporary design idiom, the GLC also evokes passion for the SUV through the sporty looks of its interior. First-class materials, authentic trim elements and innovative infotainment systems come together to create a luxury ambience typical of the Mercedes-Benz brand. The occupants of the GLC are treated to contemporary luxury of a standard unprecedented in this vehicle class. The newly developed, innovative touchpad in the handrest above the turn/push control nestles with ergonomic perfection in the centre console. Partially integrated above the centre console is a centrally positioned media display.

Five circular air outlets with a metallic “cool touch” effect give the instrument panel a sporty look while providing an exciting contrast with the warm appearance of the other materials.
