The Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team is taking on a new and exciting challenge in the 125-year motorsport history of Mercedes-Benz, competing in the FIA Formula E World Championship – the first all-electric international single-seater series.

By competing in Formula E, we are not only being part of an electrifying racing series but also a part of urban culture around the globe. We seek points on the track as well as driving sustainable change, creating an initial spark for innovation and contribute to a better life.

Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team having a strategy meeting

Our team made its official Formula E debut in the 2019/2020 season, with Stoffel Vandoorne and Nyck de Vries behind the wheel of a pair of Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrows 01s - sporting all-black liveries for the final six races in Berlin, as a clear statement against racism and all forms of discrimination.

During the course of the 2019/2020 Formula E campaign, we competed in 11 rounds, scoring pole position and race victory in the final event of the season and three further podium finishes. We finished P3 in the Teams’ Championship, while Stoffel was runner-up in the Drivers’ Championship.

The fast-paced world of Formula E requires teamwork, passion, innovation and attention-to-detail. Every single team member plays their part in determining how we perform on and off the track. And this is just the beginning, for Mercedes-Benz’s Formula E journey.

Team History.

Based in Brackley, UK, the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team joined the all-electric FIA Formula E World Championship for the 2019/2020 season. Stoffel Vandoorne, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team’s reserve driver, and Nyck de Vries competed for the team, at the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows 01.

Our team enjoyed a productive pre-season testing programme, before the season-opening Diriyah ePrix double-header at the end of November. It was a successful debut for Mercedes-Benz in Formula E, with Stoffel finishing both races in P3. The two drivers backed up that strong start by both finishing in the points in Santiago, before two challenging rounds in Mexico and Marrakesh where we failed to score.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the season concluded with six races within the space of nine days, taking place at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit in Berlin, Germany, from the 5 to 13 August. We consistently picked up points in the first five rounds in Berlin but ended the season with success – its first pole position and victory in Formula E. Stoffel was victorious in the finale, with Nyck crossing the line to make it a 1-2 finish.

The result capped off an exciting, action-packed and dramatic season for Formula E and a huge learning curve for our team, which now looks forward to the 2020/2021 season and a chance to build on the success of its debut campaign.
