In a collaborative effort, [link url=http://web.mit.edu target=_blank]MIT[/link] and the  [link url=http://www.draper.com target=_blank]Draper[/link] Company have developed a flight algorithm for autonomous drones, which does not rely on GPS, detailed maps or motion capture systems. Position, orientation and velocity of the drone are determined on the basis of sensor data. The algorithm subsequently uses this information to calculate the optimal route.
