Researchers at Duke University collect waste heat in nanoplates. Their [link url=https://www.osapublishing.org/optica/abstract.cfm?uri=optica-4-4-430 target=_blank] thermophotovoltaik chips [/link] absorb infrared light, which is emitted by hot materials like the bodywork of cars standing in the sun. Heat can thus be used to generate electricity.
