#WeWonder and the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQ.

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion #WeWonder initiative brings together seven of the world’s most innovative and inspiring fashion and design visionaries to imagine the potentiality of the future. A future in which Mercedes-Benz is pursuing a holistic approach as part of the EQ brand family which includes the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQ, presented as an integral part of our everyday lives. The latest of our six-part global series was unveiled by Slick Woods.

The #WeWonder concept.

At the beginning of 2018, Mercedes-Benz Fashion launched #WeWonder, a platform for seven visionaries to start a global conversation about the evolution of fashion in the digital age. The collective is formed of pioneers in their individual fields across fashion, music, art and media. Six themes will be unveiled and explored throughout 2018. Curator and writer Kimberly Drew revealed the first theme of “Equity” during SXSW in March, followed by fashion model Slick Woods who explores “Youth” in Palm Springs, California, during the festival season.

Why Slick Woods?

Slick Woods was chosen as part of #WeWonder for her outspoken nature and her unique approach to fashion. In an industry that is often stifled by homogeneity, Slick champions difference and newness.

Her provocative style, with her signature gap-teeth, shaven head and head-to-toe tattoos, cemented her presence in the fashion landscape. Slick and her peers represent a generation of progressive free-thinkers who disrupt stereotypes and break boundaries.

Slick Woods unplugged in Palm Springs.

In this spirit, Slick hosted “Unplugged”, a pool-side weekender at Palm Springs in spring this year. Slick’s youth collective of creatives and musicians came together for a series of open discussions, activities and performances from emerging artists, with the aim of unpacking the theme, “Youth”. Slick and her guests took a deep dive into what a youthful attitude means for the future of fashion and imagined how youth is challenging what we now demand from design: an expression of style and values alike. Led by moderator and publisher Caroline Issa, Slick presented her dream and vision of the future in her manifesto film for #WeWonder.

Pool-side performances.

The US-based singer Sosupersam as well as the emerging R&B duo Jillian Hervey and Lucas Goodman of Lion Babe inspired the guests at the event with energetic performances. The up-and-coming musicians also joined in on the collaborative discussion with Caroline Issa. Slick’s guests of young opinion-leaders then experienced exclusive test drives with the EQ concept car in the Californian desert.

Visualising the future.

A glass wall surrounding the EQ concept car was transformed into a physical expression of the manifesto. Woods encouraged her guests to illustrate their ideas, providing the backdrop to a bold and fearless future, and provided for inspiring Instagram moments.
