His expeditions have included traversing the Amazon from source to mouth solo, circumnavigating the Arctic Circle alone, and the four-year Pangaea project, which took him to all of the Earth’s continents.

Mike Horn studied Human Movement Science and uses his existential experiences to also learn more about himself, in a way that few would risk. For him, there are no limits to what people can do. Emotional barriers are countered with the question of what is possible. He successfully shared his extraordinary ability to motivate with the German national football team and led them to the World Cup victory. After extensive equipment testing in March in wintry Canada, the “Pole2Pole” adventure will start on 6 May 2016 at the Yacht Club in Monaco. From there Mike Horn will sail to Namibia on his expedition boat PANGAEA. The expedition will continue in the G-Class through the world’s oldest desert, the Namib desert, on the Namibian coast. The route then passes through the Okavango delta in Botswana, the world’s largest inland delta, and on to Cape Town in South Africa. From there PANGAEA will take him to the Antarctic, which he will cross on skis. Mike Horn will then sail the Pacific through the islands of Oceania to Asia, where he will explore parts of New Zealand and Australia. In Papua New Guinea the G-Class will await him for an expedition through unspoilt equatorial forests.

Once in Asia, a further overland expedition in the legendary off-road vehicle leads Horn through the tundra in Kamchatka, before he makes his way to the North Pole. The extreme athlete will cross the Arctic and then Greenland on skis and in a kayak. He will then sail back from the world's largest island to Monaco in the PANGAEA.

Mike Horn is not a man to do things by halves. The daring sportsman set off from his home in Switzerland in mid-May 2015 for the first section of his adventure. Challenge number one: to drive all the way to Pakistan, home of K2, the world’s second-highest peak. To do this, he was travelling overland through ten countries in a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the high-performance off-road vehicle that Mike calls “the motorised version of me”. At least he wanted to climb to the top of the K2. Unfortunately, he failed shortly before the finish.

more about 'Pangaea'

In 2008, Mike Horn launched his own sustainability project, Pangaea, and invited adolescents from around the world to join him on individual legs of the resulting four-year sailing expedition. Although the trip takes boat and crew to all corners of the globe, Horn’s goal remains one and the same: to show his young crew the beauty of the world around us – and the threats it faces in the here and now.
