From Dresden to Saxon Switzerland.

Photography is perhaps the most beautiful way you can capture your time in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains of Saxony. And hiking, of course, is the best way to explore the area. With bizarre-looking rock formations and fascinating flora and fauna, the untamed landscape is a real insider tip for nature lovers all over the world. The most popular photo opportunity is the Bastei and Neurathen Castle, which was built in 1250. The walk over the 76.5-meter-long stone bridge connecting the viewing platform and the castle ruins is definitely for the adventurous. The Kleine Winterberg and the Schrammsteine offer views that are just as grandiose. This latter group of highly rugged rocks can be reached via a protected hiking trail that requires a little endurance. Königstein Fortress, one of the largest mountain fortresses in Europe, still bears witness to the military and civilian life of the Bronze Age. (The rocky plateau on which the fortress now stands was settled in 1100). After spending time in the untouched nature of the national parks, it is worth it to take a side trip to visit our Czech neighbors. The village of Hiensko lies directly on the border with Germany and reveals true natural wonders in the Kamnitz Gorge and the Edmund Gorge. A journey by small boat over the calm waters of the Kamnitz resembles a journey into centuries past. If you prefer something a little more urban, don’t miss the old town in Dresden. The historic city center is located directly on the banks of the Elbe. With the Dresden Frauenkirche, the Residenzschloss (Dresden Castle), and the Altmarkt Square, there are many highlights to see during a longer trip to this great city.
