Absolutely top class: The Maybach brand was continued under the name Mercedes-Maybach in 2014. The new model (front) refers to the first Mercedes-Benz Type 600 Pullman, which was introduced in 1963 (rear).
The history of the Maybach brand has been closely tied to Mercedes-Benz. The common goal: driving luxury vehicles to new heights.

“Best of Best”.

There are two nominations for lead role in the category of sophisticated luxury vehicle in 2021. Of course they are not one but two series of Mercedes-Maybach models that form the pinnacle of the passenger vehicle range. Their sophisticated appearance and status as “Best of Best” make them the paragons of this superlative market segment. All around the world, there is demand for what the luxury segment defines as excellence.

Brand that invented the automobile.

One key component is the perfect interaction of all technological factors, which the brand that invented the automobile provides as a basis in the mass-produced S-Class. However, Mercedes-Maybach customers want more from a distinguished vehicle within a highly select group. First, we come to the Mercedes-Maybach saloons. With their elongated silhouette measuring a total length of 5.47 metres, their striking radiator grille and their wide C-pillar with triangular windows, they represent the height of sophistication. The 3.4-metre wheelbase creates an opulent interior feel, while the wide range of technological, media and visual features result in a relaxed, calming combination of luxury and high-tech.

Individual.

The almost limitless range of exquisite materials available for the customer to choose from, along with the operating concept featuring state-of-the-art assistance systems, can be complemented by the individual and iconic two-tone paintwork, for example. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS is still new on the scene. This SUV combines the technological basis of the GLS with the haute couture of a Maybach to create a vehicle that opens up completely new possibilities. The transfer of sophisticated luxury into almost impassable terrain reflects the design innovation behind the construction of a Maybach vehicle: international cooperation in automotive construction and beyond.

Striking: the Mercedes-Maybach GLS unites the basic technologies of an SUV with luxurious opulence.

The first modern car.

Before Wilhelm Maybach, his son Karl and the energetic inventor Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin started constructing their own vehicles under the Maybach brand, however, Wilhelm Maybach developed the lightweight, fast-running combustion engine along with Gottlieb Daimler. The first modern car was constructed at a customer’s request in 1900 and 1901.

Its abiding construction principles included the long chassis, front-mounted engine and the “honeycomb” radiator grille, which provided for a sporty engine performance and which characterises the construction of cooling units for cars to this day.

Wilhelm Maybach.

The “King of the Constructors” Wilhelm Maybach.

Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach took the first step towards mobility with their single-cylinder engine in 1885.

From 1907, the “King of the Constructors” also started designing large engines together with his son, Karl. These were what made the megatrend possible that soon took the world by storm: aviation. Pioneering airship builder Count von Zeppelin became part of a joint venture that manufactured Maybach engines for Zeppelin airships from 1912 onwards. Their quietly hovering flight, providing a new perspective on the world, resulted in an exquisite way to travel: weightlessly gliding from place to place in a cosy cabin with every conceivable comfort for the passengers.

Exceptional show cars.

The brand’s most luxurious model offered everything that engineers and stylists could produce in terms of technology and luxury. Two exceptional show cars were presented in 2016 and 2017 under the name Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, whose mere length of 5.7 metres made impressive design options possible. With the highly elongated bonnet and the low roofline, they reinterpreted classic aesthetic principles as a coupé and a cabriolet. The “boat tail” rear is also reminiscent of the decks of luxury yachts that are also made from elm. In the same way, the elegant droplet shape of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is influenced by the art deco period, i.e. the early 20th century, when the first Maybach vehicles found their way to their proud new owners.

High standards of excellence.

In addition to the functionality of the drive and the technological beauty, the desire for aerodynamic efficiency is part of the philosophy of construction underpinning the Maybach Vision models. The brand recently gave an insight into the future with the presentation of the Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS; the SUV will be the first all-electric massproduced Mercedes-Maybach model. The debut of the Mercedes-Maybach models in 2021 not only meets the brand’s high standards of excellence with the EQS SUV study: as with all truly special things in life, it is only appropriate that Mercedes-Maybach cars honour their exceptional heritage in a suitable fashion, transferring it with sophistication into the future.

The hard-top Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 also intrigues with its flowing shape – typical of the art deco period that defined the early days of the brand.

If this transformation is as well thought-out as the latest Mercedes-Maybach models, the breaks in the brand’s evolution will appear as a decorative patina. It is exactly this vibrant history that is one of Maybach’s unique selling propositions. The perfectly interlocking components of the brand can hardly be described as anything less than legendary.
