Moskau: Race 2

This weekend marks the third time that the Moscow Raceway northwest of the Russian capital has hosted the DTM. Mercedes-AMG driver Pascal Wehrlein (gooix Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) won the first race on Saturday. In the second race on Sunday, Gary Paffett (EURONICS Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) was the best-placed Mercedes-AMG driver with a P6 finish. Paffett did very well in the first race, moving up 13 places during the 45-minute race into P7.

Two Mercedes-AMG DTM drivers in the Top 10

Wehrlein finished the second race in the points in tenth place. After twelve of 18 races, he is in second position in the drivers' standings on 120 points - six points behind championship leader Mattias Ekström (Audi). Team gooix/Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG head the team standings with a 23-point lead.

Vietoris' mechanics with a tremendous effort

Daniel Juncadella (PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) came home in P13. Scottish driver Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) crossed the finish line in 15th place. Mercedes-AMG drivers Maximilian Götz (Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM), Lucas Auer (BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) and Christian Vietoris (Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) placed 18th, 19th and 20th respectively. Following a no-fault collision in the first race, Vietoris' mechanics worked without a break to repair his car in time for Sunday's fixture. Canadian Robert Wickens (SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) ended the twelfth race of the season in P22.

Next stop: Oschersleben

The seventh race weekend of the 2015 DTM season will take place from September 11th-13th in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.

Comments after the race

Gary Paffett (34, England):

  • P7
  • Car number: 2
  • Team: EURONICS/BWT Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team ART)
  • Car: EURONICS Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

"Obviously, I would have liked to do better than sixth place, but in view of our pace, that's probably about right. I lost the DRS to the guys in front quite near the start. I was just fighting the whole race after that, trying to draw away from the other drivers. We weren't quick enough to win today, but sixth place means more points. It's tough to score points every weekend. Hopefully, we can get back on the podium next race."

Pascal Wehrlein (20, Germany):

  • P10
  • Car number: 94
  • Team: gooix/Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team HWA)
  • Car: gooix Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

"Unfortunately, things didn't go too well in the pits. Firstly, I had to brake sharply because it was very busy with traffic. And then after the pit stop, Mortara was ahead of me again. With Mortara in front of him, Müller had DRS the whole time. However, our poor qualifying today was the key factor in the race. I was only eleventh on the grid. It's just really tough from there."

Daniel Juncadella (24, Spain):

  • P13
  • Car number: 12
  • Team: PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team Mücke)
  • Car: PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

"That was a tough race. I got a good start, but Mortara overtook me on the first lap. After that, I was stuck in traffic almost all the time, which meant I couldn't show my pace. It's tricky when you don't qualify well up the field. I'm satisfied with yesterday, but not much more was possible today, unfortunately."

Paul Di Resta (29, Scotland):

  • P15
  • Car number: 3
  • Team: SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team HWA)
  • Car: Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

"Qualifying was nowhere near where it should have been. Yesterday, the car was strong and I had good pace, but for some reason, it just wasn't there today. This was a frustrating weekend all in all. I was taken out in a strong position in Race 1 and didn't score again today. Hopefully, we can hit back at Oschersleben."

Maximilian Götz (29, Germany):

  • P18
  • Car number: 84
  • Team: PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team Mücke)
  • Car: Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

"Today was full of mixed emotions. The morning started well. I was satisfied with the warm-up. But then, grid position 17 in the second qualifying wasn't exactly what I'd imagined. Still, times were so tightly bunched that it was a real lottery. One small mistake meant losing several places. Unfortunately, we had no chance in the race. I fought hard, but only for the hell of it. And so, I tried to drive at a good pace and find my rhythm in order to gain as much experience as possible."

Lucas Auer (20, Austria):

  • P19
  • Car number: 22
  • Team: EURONICS/BWT Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team ART)
  • Car: BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

"Qualifying went well enough for me, but the race itself wasn't great. I risked a bit too much at the start, causing me to go well over to the outside, so I dropped down to last place. After that, though my pace was good."

Christian Vietoris (26, Germany):

  • P20
  • Car number: 8
  • Team: gooix/Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team HWA)
  • Car: Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

"That was a poor show this weekend. Friday was quite good, but we lost pace on Saturday and Sunday, unfortunately. Still, I'd like to mention once again what a great job my team did in repairing my car so quickly in less than a day. That was the only high point of the weekend for me. I'd like to say a big thank you to my team for their hard work. Now I'm looking forward to Oschersleben."

Robert Wickens (26, Canada):

  • P22
  • Car number: 6
  • Team: SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team HWA)
  • Car: SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

"That was a terrible race. I had an okay start, but that was probably the only good thing. I didn't have enough speed to score points. And then to cap it all, I got a drive-through-penalty for speeding in the pit lane. It was just so bad."

Ulrich Fritz, Head of Mercedes-AMG DTM:

"We expected more today after yesterday's race. As regards to the final result, qualifying was definitely the determining factor. Unfortunately, we didn't gain many places in the race. The cars all had a similar pace today, which obviously makes overtaking tricky, especially when you drop out of the DRS zone. Taking the whole weekend into account, it's a mixed bag. It's certainly good that Pascal was able to take points out of the championship leader and that Gary did well. What's less encouraging, though, is today's result in the race."
