About the museum.
The museum of the Mille Miglia gives vibrant testimony of the Mille Miglia, the legendary car race of Brescia. It opened its doors on 10 November 2004. The founding of the museum was conceived and realised by the Associazione Museo della Mille Miglia Città di Brescia (Museum Association of the Mille Miglia City of Brescia), which was in turn founded for this purpose by a number of “friends of the Mille Miglia” and the Automobile Club Brescia.
The museum of the legendary race of historic automobiles is located inside the Sant’Eufemia della Fonte Monastery, a complex of architectural splendour outside Brescia on Lake Garda. The magnificent location and its historical significance lend the Museo Mille Miglia even more additional prestige.
The museum dedicated to the Mille Miglia introduces visitors to an exceptional sporting event and at the same time displays an excerpt of Italy’s history, culture and customs in the regions that the race traversed between 1927 and 1957.
The path through the museum is divided into nine periods: seven sections are dedicated to the Mille Miglia in the years 1927 to 1957; one deals with the Mille Miglia from 1958 to 1961; and another focuses on today’s Mille Miglia. Vintage cars associated with the Mille Miglia add to the exhibition. The entire museum tour is marked by a red line on the floor, which leads through all sections of the exhibition.
At the end, the path continues into an area reserved for institutions and companies. It offers the opportunity to display special environments or situations that are a factor in the adventure of the historic and contemporary Mille Miglia.
Finally, just before coming to the exit, the rarest and most significant collections of the historic Mille Miglia race can be viewed, which are housed in the unique atmosphere of the antique stables.
