Triple victory for Mercedes-Benz at the Motor Klassik Awards 2018.

Triple victory for Mercedes-Benz at the Motor Klassik Awards 2018: The readers of the Motor Klassik trade magazine have once again chosen the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing” (W 198) as the most sought-after classic car in the 1940s and 1950s category. The G-Class of model series 463 is the most promising classic vehicle of the future among current SUV and off-road vehicles of 2018. Finally, Mercedes-Benz Classic had an overwhelming victory in the “Best Brand” evaluation in the Genuine Replacement Parts category.

“Best Brand” evaluation.

For the Motor Klassik Awards 2018, exactly 51.2 percent of Motor Klassik readers' votes in the Genuine Replacement Parts category (“Best Brand” evaluation) were for Mercedes-Benz Classic. That is an absolute majority for genuine parts from the brand with the star. This fantastic result is the fifth victory in a row in this category, and the best rating since 2012. “We are proud that our customers acknowledge Mercedes-Benz Classics’s great dedication to genuine replacement parts for classic cars with this excellent result”, Christian Boucke, Head of Mercedes-Benz Classic, reported delightfully.

“It is breathtakingly beautiful, wild, loud and fast. The civil SL has hardly been tamed.”

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing” (W 198) was bestowed no less than two awards this year:developed on the basis of the 300 SL racing car (W 194) from 1952, the dream-like coupe with the characteristic gullwing doors won the “Classics of the 1940s and 1950s” category. The Motor Klassik Award has been awarded in this form since 2012, and since then readers have favoured the 300 SL five times. More than one third of participants (37.6 percent to be exact) thus agree with Motor Klassik's characterisation of the super racing car, of which 1,400 were built up until 1957: With reference to the winner, they state: “It is breathtakingly beautiful, wild, loud and fast. The civil SL has hardly been tamed.” The 300 SL “Gullwing” received a further award in the “Auction Car 2017” category.

An unrestored gullwing from 1955 won out here: the vehicle with a mere 16,300 miles on the clock was auctioned for 1,428,570 euro in Pebble Beach in 2017. Motor Klassik readers, part of the classic automobile scene, also make strong predictions for brand and automobile history when selecting the classics of the future regarding SUVs and off-road vehicles. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class of model series 463 was the winner in this category. It is a symbol of the unique success of the G-Model, first introduced in 1979. This off-road icon has been built for almost 40 years thanks to continuous refinement and development. The new G-Class celebrated its highly regarded premiere at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January 2018 in Detroit.
