1.5 hp Daimler two-cylinder engine.

In 1889, Daimler and Maybach built a first two-cylinder gasoline engine to be able to boost output. It was based on the Grandfather Clock, and its cylinders were arranged in a V-shape. Messrs. Panhard & Levassor acquired the user rights for the French market and as early as October 1889 started license production of this the world’s first multi-cylinder gasoline engine.
