    Daimler’s Grandfather Clock was the world’s first small high-speed internal combustion engine to run on gasoline. It was light and yet powerful enough to drive a vehicle. The engine was given its epithet because it resembled a grandfather clock. A patent was filed for it in 1885. The unit shown here corresponds to the most powerful version from 1886.
