As usual, all the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studios around the world prepared design drafts of their visions for the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo design.

Between reality and vision.

A brief look behind the scenes: design development for the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo.
  • Between reality and vision.

  • Looking into the future.

On the occasion of the 15th birthday of the popular Gran Turismo® series this year, Kazunori Yamauchi, Head of Games Development and President of Polyphony Digital Inc., has called for a look into the future. Under the basic idea of “Vision Gran Turismo”, leading car manufacturers and design companies worldwide were asked to fashion pioneering design models. These virtual vehicles with their realistic controls will be unveiled successively in the new Gran Turismo® 6 game by means of online updates.

    You can see from the

The designers at the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studios in Sindelfingen and Carlsbad (Exterior Design), and Como, Italy (Interior Design) developed the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo. It's really clear that the designers' hearts beat passionately for super sports cars.

The entire corporate design philosophy is to be found in the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo.

    Sensual clarity.

'With its proportions and its expressive appearance, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo embodies that design philosophy of sensual clarity which is characteristic of the brand.

The design of this concept car clearly shows the perfect interaction of emotive, sensual shapes with intelligently placed technologies,' said Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG.

    Challenge accepted.

Despite the tight deadline, the passion of the Mercedes-Benz designers spurred them on to provide peak performance as part of this collaboration with the game’s developer Kazunori Yamauchi. Probably the greatest challenge was integrating the reality of motor sport into the virtuality of the game. As a car brand which has always had motor racing in its genes, Mercedes-Benz enthusiastically accepted this progressive challenge. The overall aim of the project was to present fans with Mercedes-Benz AMG’s vision of a super sports car in readiness for the release of Gran Turismo® 6. The car will offer fans a very unique driving experience and it will definitely make a great birthday present!

    Excellent.

During the design development of the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, the same standards were kept and the same processes followed as for any other concept car or series-production model. All the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studios around the world prepared initial design drafts of their visions. Finally, the best ideas were further developed at the Advanced Design Studio in Sindelfingen as part of a digital design process, and then perfected in a physical 1:1 design process. The interior design was created at the specialised Advanced Design Studio in Como, Italy.

Also, the sound designers of the concept car have integrated an elegant, specially developed sound for the eight independent exhaust pipes integrated into the rear lamps. Your competitors will definitely register this powerful, distinctive engine sound when the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo overtakes them.

With the release of Gran Turismo® 6 at the end of 2013, you will be able to sit behind the wheel of the virtual Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo.

    Inspiration, the driving force.

With the worldwide release of Gran Turismo® 6, you will be able to sit behind the wheel of this incredible car. But before this creation was born, a more careful and meticulous look was needed. “The exterior of a car, its motion, the driving feel and the presentation of the surrounding scenery must be as detailed and realistic as possible,” said game developer Yamauchi. And that is exactly where the difficulty lies: combining reality and the future in one concept. “The development of a concept car is always truly inspiring for us designers and is that which drives us,” said Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG. “We can try out new things and venture far into the future. And of course you will find this philosophy in future Mercedes-Benz models. Not only in sports cars – although there in particular – so be ready for a surprise.”
