Mercedes-Benz meets Veritasium. Episode 5: DISTRONIC.

On all types of roads – freeways, highways and also city roads – this intelligent system is not only able to keep the correct distance to vehicles ahead with the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, but can also follow them in their lane from 0 up to 210 kph, even in Stop-and-Go traffic with extended re-start, on highways up to 30 seconds. The system supports the driver in normal driving by access of throttle and brake as well as steering, even in curves. Up to 130 kph, Active Steering Assist not necessarily depends on clearly detectable lines. It can stay active, even if lane markings are lacking or unclear, for example in road construction areas. Thereby, the system can relieve and assist the driver effectively, especially on full roads or in congested traffic.
If Active Distance-Assist DISTRONIC is turned on, the speed will be adjusted automatically to route events ahead such as curves, T-crossings, roundabouts or toll booths as well as exits and turns. The vehicle will pass the route section ahead depending on the selected driving program, either fuel efficiently, comfortably or dynamically and then resume the preset speed. The route-based speed adjustment does not heed right-of-way rules; this supervising task remains with the driver. Route-based speed adjustment before turns at crossings, on exit and adjacent lanes is activated by turn signal; if route guidance is enabled in the COMAND Online navigation system an initial speed adjustment is activated automatically.
