Road trip to Geneva with the Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG.
“This is going to be an awesome trip!”.
Planning a road trip from the Netherlands towards Switzerland for the Geneva Motor Show is always fun. Especially when you get the opportunity to choose between an A 45 AMG or a GLA 45 AMG for the road trip. After a short discussion whether to pick the A-Class or the GLA our choice is the GLA 45 AMG, because of its even more unique design and all-round capabilities. Full of excitement we arrive at Mercedes-Benz Netherlands to pick up the car. We don’t know what the car looks like, so we follow our key while pressing the open button, hoping to find the car.
A 45 AMG:
Fuel consumption combined: 7.1-6.9 l/100 km;
combined CO₂ emissions: 165-161 g/km.*
It turns out to be a great looking white GLA 45 AMG with 20 inch black rims that’s parked at the very end of the parking. We quickly get in the car and hit the road – this is going to be an awesome trip!
A shining star.
It is already at night as we arrive at our hotel, the “Öschberghof” in Donaueschingen. The hotel is located half way of our journey towards Geneva and is the “shining star” in the middle of nowhere. After a very nice steak, we decide to call it a day. The next morning we wake up in white wonderland. Without the black rims, it would be quite a challenge to find the GLA 45 AMG on the parking. Luckily we manage to find it and to continue our journey.
A very good all-rounder.
After almost 1,000 kilometres of fun and many smiles, we arrive in Geneva. We decide to head into Carouge, a municipality in the Canton of Geneva, which was first mentioned in the Early Middle Ages. That is noticeable in every street when we look at the buildings and architecture in general. From Carouge, we are driving to the centre of Geneva. We are passing highlights such as the United Nations, The Batiment des Forces-Motrices and Cathédrale Saint-Pierre. Between the older buildings you can also spot some modern buildings.
The GLA 45 AMG fits right in both old and modern architecture. In combination with the looks and capabilities, the car is a very good all-rounder in our opinion.
Perfect weather. Perfect view.
Another highlight that we cannot miss is the Geneva lake. Sadly we can’t see the Jet d’Eau fountain in action, but the weather and view is perfect for some photos. The white mountain tops and clean shaved trees, which you can find everywhere around the lake, add a great atmosphere to the photos. Even at night the lake is stunning and definitely a view we could live with for our second night. The Geneva Motor Show is one of the most important car shows of the year and during the following days the GLA 45 AMG is used as a means of transport between the hotel and the show. Impressive cars as the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Pullman and Mercedes-AMG GT3 celebrate their respective world debuts.
Back to The Netherlands.
After wrapping up our work at the Motor Show, we start our journey back to The Netherlands. And with a lovely sunset shining into the car, we remind ourselves that we have to hand over the car back to Mercedes-Benz Netherlands unfortunately. However, the Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG will always have a little place in our hearts…
