The concept of luxury: the Excelsior Store at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Italy’s special love affair with design and architecture can be seen on almost any Milanese street corner. Take Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a stunning roofed shopping gallery near the famous Duomo with its wealth of stucco, frescos and marble.

Here, the luxury concept store Excelsior spreads across seven floors and treats stylish locals to anything that makes life more beautiful: from Martin Margiela footwear to high-end high tech devices.

The daily feast at premium supermarket Eataly.

Welcome to elegant fashion, beautiful women and legendary cuisine. From Sicilian caponata to Ligurian minestrone, Italy’s food is the country’s crowning glory, celebrated in style at Milan’s Eataly. This gourmet temple’s three floors offer any conceivable delicacy, accompanied by detailed and flowery descriptions of each item’s heritage and manufacture.

The highly palatable shopping experience is flanked by restaurants, bars and cooking classes that teach aspiring chefs the right way to make the most of these high-end products. Buon appetito!

Mid-century sophistication with a pool view at Ceresio 7.

For perfect refreshments after a day of extensive shopping and sightseeing, head to Ceresio 7 atop the Dsquared flagship store at Porta Garibaldi.

The elegant roof terrace, complete with a couple of pools, is bathed in sunshine until the early evening. Meanwhile, indoors patrons enjoy the laid-back combination of colourful lounge furniture and enticing treats such as orange fennel salad, saffron risotto or grilled seafood.

Creative chaos at the 10 Corso Como Store.

The 10 Corso Como concept store not only provides an excellent glimpse of the latest designer collections, but also plenty of music and interior inspirations, all set in a lively atmosphere.

Constructed around a tranquil courtyard, the building hosts a gallery, cafe, book store and music shop – more than enough to keep you busy for the day.

Hipster hangout with industrial appeal: DRY.

What do we need to be happy? How about bartenders shaking up impeccable cocktails while your pizza margherita crisps up in the oven? This particular combination is served at Dry where Milan’s cool kids enjoy the venue’s culinary mix set against raw, untreated walls and fixtures.

The only stumbling block: It might take some willpower to get up and leave this buzzing hotspot.
