This year marks the debut of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Almaty, the very first international fashion week in this region of Central Asia. The host city of Almaty is the former capital of Kazakhstan, and a culturally thriving location. Rich in natural landscape and history, the Eurasian hub is situated in a lush valley surrounded by towering snowcapped mountains, lakes and forests. An emerging creative class, fuelled by the country’s economic boom and characteristic appreciation of luxury goods, has produced a fleet of young designers whose ambitions are to continue developing their craft and expanding their markets both domestically and internationally. The first Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Almaty, which took place 24-27 April, proved to be a tremendous success, attracting large crowds, with the event being a simultaneous nod to both the past and future.
Organised by Zhanel Bertayeva (Executive Director), Zhamilya Abilova (PR Director), Yan Ray (Art Director) and Daria Shapovalova (International Director), Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Almaty was held within the complex of the newly completed – and ultra luxe – Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
