Style Profiles: taekwondo athlete Paige McPherson.
This special edition of the Mercedes-Benz Style Profiles video series, produced in cooperation with the British Fashion Council, pits two sporting pros against each other – and the result is a fast-paced style battle between taekwondo athlete Paige McPherson and BMX champ Dennis Enarson, styled by Sara Sensoy and captured by film maker Ace Norton.
The duo’s striking on-screen outfits come courtesy of collections by some of the most exciting participants of the London Fashion Week and London Collections Men.
When two are fighting, the third takes the prize.
The fictitious short film “The Spot” shows Team USA Taekwondo Olympic Bronze medallist Paige McPherson in a humorous Matrix-style confrontation with three martial arts pros – over a free parking space. Whilst the girls are busy bickering over nothing, an unexpected third party pulls a smarter move…
Weird and fun.
Both of these short films by US director Ace Norton splice fun and weird elements – after all, they are the film maker’s trademark components and resurface in videos for the likes of fashion brand RHIÉ or French musician Sébastien Tellier. When asked about his approach and narrative, Norton attributes a lot of it to growing up in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, where he still lives today. “Venice is a melting pot of wackos from different cultures, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds. On the same one mile stretch of sand, surfers live next to gang members, who live next street performers, who live next body builders. Being born and raised here has shaped me as a film maker, it’s made me appreciate and be tolerant of anything and everything weird.
