Chio Aachen 2014: the Mercedes-Benz Nations' Cup.
Elite sporting competition.
On 17 July 2014, more than 40,000 visitors attended one of the highlights of the CHIO Aachen: The Mercedes-Benz Nations’ Cup. The world’s best riders and horses took to the “holy green” of Aachen’s Soers in an elite sporting competition, delivering a thrilling event for the audience at the sold-out stadium. The Belgian Equestrian team took the victory.
In 2014 Mercedes-Benz and CHIO Aachen celebrate the anniversary of a very special partnership. The general sponsor has now supported the CHIO (Concours Hippique International Officiel) World Equestrian Festival for 60 years. The event broadcast in more than 140 countries attracts approximately 360,000 visitors every year.
Riding against hunger.
For the first time the jumpers at this year’s Mercedes-Benz Nations’ Cup at the CHIO Aachen also rode for a charitable cause. Every rider who successfully completed the final obstacle of the course, the Mercedes jump, without dropping a fence, gave a voluntary donation of 100 euros to the “Riding against hunger” initiative. Mercedes-Benz contributed a further 50,000 euros to the riders’ donations. This resulted in a final donation of 55,800 euros. Gudrun Bauer, Michael Mronz, the German Equestrian team around the national trainer Otto Becker, the Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and Dr. Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, were all extremely pleased with the final result. The event had literally striven for happiness on earth on the backs of good horses.
Mercedes-Benz and equestrian sport.
The star brand has been a primary sponsor of the World Equestrian Festival since 1954. Mercedes-Benz has also sponsored the Mercedes-Benz Nations’ Cup since 1981. Its commitment to CHIO, to Hamburg’s Jumping and Dressage Derby, the Pferd International in Munich and the Stuttgart German Masters make the premium vehicle brand one of the most important sponsors in equestrian sport. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz is also involved in and works together with sales partners at numerous local events such as the S&G Goldstadt Cup in Pforzheim or the VR Classics in Neumünster. For many years Mercedes-Benz has also been involved in the Mercedes-Benz Riders’ Forum which is held throughout Germany and offers lectures from top equestrian athletes for amateurs. Since 2007, more than 80,000 visitors have attended more than 200 Mercedes-Benz Riders’ forums.
