New winning types: Lewis Holtby and the CLA from Mercedes-Benz.

An interview with Benedikt Höwedes and Lewis Holtby.

Two alpha wolves, too young for compromises.

The next generation.

They're young. They're fast. And they've got big plans: in the German national under-21 football team, ambitious young talents are nurtured into world-class players. For great football legends like Rudi Völler, Pierre Littbarski and Joachim Löw, the youth team proved to be an important stepping stone in their careers.

At the European championships in Israel the team's trainer, Rainer Adrion, aims to show everyone that his team has what it takes to make it big.

The national under-21 squad is the springboard for future world-class players.

The will to push forward.

Benedikt Höwedes (25 years of age) currently plays in FC Schalke 04’s defence. From 2007 to 2010, he worked his magic for the German national under-21 team. In a decisive qualifying match, he planted the winning goal firmly in the net to take the German national team to a 1:0 victory and thus also to the European championships in 2009. Here, they subsequently took home the victory. In 2011 Joachim Löw called upon him to join the A-squad of the German national side, where he currently still plays. Lewis Holtby (22 years of age) is the current captain of the national under-21 team. His 2008/2009 season was full of excellent goal setups and after making a name for himself, the 2009/2010 season saw him transfer to Bundesliga team FC Schalke 04.

During the Under-20 Junior World Championships in 2009, he secured the goal which took Germany into the lead against Brazil in the quarter-finals. He has accrued a total of 13 Bundesliga goals to date. In the meantime, he now plays for Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.

Alpha wolf on-board.

The game is his life. And life is his game. Holtby belongs to a generation whose relaxed demeanour often leads to their leadership qualities being underestimated. The young captain refutes such claims and himself defines leadership in a contemporary fashion. Holtby’s youthful fire is not fuelled by vanity. It doesn’t cost him any effort to set himself apart from the rest, he simply follows his instinct as a matter of course. The alpha wolf wants to move forwards – and fast. Nevertheless he recognises his key role as a leading team player, which allows him to be authentic and co-operative. Above all of his personal ambition, he never forgets to place value on that which is dear to him: the love of life and of those for whom he bears responsibility. His success strategy is all about being down-to-earth.

Level-headed go-getter.

The youngest winner from Mercedes-Benz goes by the name CLA. As a pioneer of a new vehicle class, it breaks with all the conventional clichés. It playfully manages to unite supposed opposites. With its suspiciously record-breaking low drag coefficient of just 0.23, it guarantees minimal fuel consumption even at top speeds. However, ambition is no reason to neglect safety: Blind Spot Assist, Highbeam Assist and Collision Prevention Assist form a responsible team which efficiently supports the driver. Even when being pushed to the limits around tight bends, the 4.63-metre-long four-door Coupé stays serenely in its lane.

Level-headed go-getter: the Mercedes-Benz CLA.

Tasteful equipment packages leave no personalisation wishes unanswered. What's more, just because you’re in the car, you don't have to put your social life to one side: the vehicle's interior sports the latest Mercedes-Benz multimedia generation which makes uncomplicated integration of your smartphone possible.

A new class for a new generation: the CLA from Mercedes-Benz.

In a league of its own.

The CLA from Mercedes-Benz is more than just a vehicle. It's proof. Proof that the fusion of long-standing experience with avant-garde design is not only possible, but that it is a pre-requisite to score in another league.

Its deliberate avoidance of tame appearances may not please everyone – but it will please the right one.
