Laureus World Sports Awards 2015 in Shanghai.

The prize-giving event of the most important awards in the international sports calendar will be held on 15 April in the world-famous Shanghai Grand Theatre.

Honouring sporting achievement.

At the first prize-giving ceremony, which will be given worldwide TV coverage, the most outstanding athletes of the year will be honoured for their performance, along with great sports personalities of the past and present.

The Laureus World Sports Awards will be supported by both the HengYuanXiang Group (HYX) – a Chinese textile and wool manufacturer and an organising partner of the Laureus World Sports Awards 2015 – and Shanghai City Council.

For more sports in children's lives.

The winners of the Laureus World Sports Awards are chosen by 47 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy. The proceeds from the Laureus World Sports Awards go to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and form the basis of the Foundation’s work in supporting over 150 sports-related social projects in 34 countries of the world – including China. Since the Foundation was set up, Laureus has raised over 60 million euros for sports projects, making an improvement to the lives of millions of children and young people.

Since the first Laureus World Sports Awards were bestowed, the prize has gone to China three times.

Here’s to good teamwork!

Academy member Edwin Moses said: “I would particularly like to thank the HengYuanXiang Group and Shanghai City Council, without whose support this event would not be possible. Laureus is far more than just a prize-giving event, however. As our first patron, Nelson Mandela, said: ‘Sport has the power to change the world.’ And sport can indeed improve people’s lives. We would like to use the 2015 prize-giving event to send this message from Shanghai to the rest of China and the whole world, to show how sports can have a positive influence on all our lives.

The Academy members are delighted that the prize-giving ceremony of the Laureus Awards 2015 will be held in Shanghai.

Laureus has been active in Shanghai for many years. This cooperation will now give us the opportunity to expand our work in China considerably.”
