The best together: Mercedes-Benz at the IRONMAN 70.3.
High performance in the searing heat.
Green pastures, snowy peaks and a shining lake – a breathtaking backdrop for a special premiere: for the first time in the history of the IRONMAN 70.3, the World Championship took place on European soil in Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria. The competition covered half the distance of the classic Hawaiian IRONMAN and drew the best triathletes to the Salzburg region. Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador Sebastian Kienle, among other things the 2014 World Champion in Hawaii and two-time World Champion in the IRONMAN 70.3 series, took second place in the searing heat.
The ideal training partner.
113 kilometres of iron willpower lay between the starting gun and the finish line. The race began with a 1.9 kilometre swim through Lake Zell, followed by 90 kilometres of cycling along a challenging route with an altitude difference of 1,288 metres. The 21.1 kilometre run along Lake Zell completed the route. The race covers a total distance of 70.3 miles, giving the series its name. Jan Frodeno, the winner at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, was the fastest over the distance and took the World Champion title ahead of Sebastian Kienle. Also on location in Austria: Mercedes-Benz Vans as the official Car Partner of the IRONMAN European Tour and the V-Class, attending all of the races as the ideal training partner.
