The new E 63 AMG – with 4MATIC and as an S-model.
V8 power delivering up to 585 hp.
The new E 63 AMG is immediately available as a particularly powerful S-model with an output of 430 kW (585 hp) and 800 Newton metres of torque, as well as newly developed, performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive. The AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine still remains unrivalled when it comes to efficiency: no competitor worldwide in this segment is able to match its combination of top-class performance and fuel economy.
On request the permanent all-wheel drive system is also available for the other E 63 AMG models – in this case the output of the V8 engine increases from the previous 386 kW (525 hp) to 410 kW (557 hp), with 720 Nm of torque. This means that for the first time, Mercedes-AMG is offering high-performance passenger car models with an all-wheel drive system configured for top driving dynamics.
AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission.
Maximum individuality and tailor-made dynamics – these are the strengths of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. Its four transmission modes allow the driver a personalised setup. In “C” the driver perceives the transmission characteristics as soft, with comfortable and early gearshifts. In modes “S”, “S+” and “M” the engine and transmission show a much more agile response, and the ECO start/stop function is deactivated. The partial cylinder cutoff function is perfectly suited to a brisk style of driving: brief and precisely defined interruption of ignition and injection under full load makes the gearshifts sound even faster and more emotive. An automatic double-declutch function when downshifting and the RACE START function are likewise standard features of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission.
Performance-oriented 4MATIC all-wheel drive for outstanding dynamics.
The performance-oriented all-wheel drive system sends 33 percent of the engine torque to the front axle and 67 percent to the rear axle. This rear-based power distribution ensures the high dynamism typical of an AMG and driving pleasure to the highest degree. The 3-stage ESP® is specially configured for the permanent all-wheel drive system. To ensure maximum agility, “SPORT Handling” mode has wheel-selective braking intervention by the Torque Vectoring Brake, preventing any tendency to understeer when entering bends. When negotiating bends, brief and specific braking intervention at the inner rear wheel causes the car to yaw into the bend to a defined extent. AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive improves handling safety and roadholding on wet or wintry road surfaces.
Optimum traction is ensured by a multi-disc clutch with a locking effect of 50 Newton metres, which makes for maximum road adhesion by all four wheels especially on snow and ice.
E 63 AMG S-model with locking differential at the rear axle.
In the E 63 AMG S-model Mercedes-AMG goes another step further. In line with the 'Driving Performance' philosophy, the most powerful model in the E-Class also has a locking differential at the rear axle. This high-tech feature increases traction even further, resulting in even better driving dynamics and even more driving enjoyment – especially on the racetrack.
All E 63 AMG models feature the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with an electronically controlled damping system. Simply pressing the button in the AMG DRIVE UNIT is sufficient for the electronics to change the mode from 'Comfort' to 'Sport' or 'Sport plus'.
Revised AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension.
The three-link front suspension has been further improved for the S-model and the E 63 AMG with all-wheel drive. In combination with the newly developed aluminium axle components this produces a considerable improvement in grip and agility, accompanied by a high degree of neutrality when cornering at speed. Whether with rear or all-wheel drive, the E 63 AMG with its 48-millimetre wider track at the front axle provides significantly more stability at high cornering speeds, as well as improved roadholding. Increased negative camber at both axles produces an additional increase in lateral dynamics. Exclusively reserved for the S-model, the elastokinematics are even more emphatically configured for performance. At the physical limits this gives the driver maximum neutrality as well as more road feedback and grip.
It is ideally complemented by the electro-mechanical AMG speed-sensitive sports steering: the direct steering ratio together with variable servo assistance adapted to the suspension mode ensures extremely agile handling on bends.
AMG high-performance composite ceramic braking system.
AMG high-performance composite ceramic braking system. The E 63 AMG is equipped with an extremely efficient AMG high-performance braking system as standard. The S-model is distinguishable by its red-painted brake callipers. On request an AMG high-performance composite ceramic braking system is exclusively available for the S-model – this is recognisable by even larger brake discs and brake callipers with a special paint finish.
The reduced weight makes for lower unsprung masses while improving driving dynamics, agility and ride comfort. The greater hardness of the ceramic discs leads to a longer operating life, as well as to higher resistance to extreme stresses and heat.
Distinctive design with even more dynamism and exclusivity.
It is not only the fascinating technology of the new E 63 AMG that focuses on dynamism and performance, as the design also emphatically conveys these defining character traits. The E 63 AMG is the first AMG model to follow the new AMG design philosophy with its AMG “twin blade” radiator grille and the so-called “A-wing”. This new, three-dimensional air deflector extends across the entire width of the AMG front apron, suggesting the stylised “A” shape that is typical of AMG cars. Black flics at the side air intakes ensure the best possible airflow to the cooling modules, and at the lower edge a front splitter painted in the vehicle colour helps to reduce lift. An impression of width at the rear end is provided by the side air outlets and the two chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system.
The black diffuser insert with its prominent fins gives the rear end of the E 63 AMG a look emphatically reminiscent of the racetrack. The E 63 AMG S-model is distinguishable from the standard model by even more striking design features such as red-painted brake callipers and the AMG logo on the boot lid, with an offset 'S' in contrasting black.
The E 63 AMG is characterised by outstanding material quality, excellent quality of finish and an exclusive atmosphere.
Depending on customer preference, the interior of the E 63 AMG S-model comes with grey contrasting topstitching and silver seat belts. The rim of the AMG Performance steering wheel in black nappa leather is flattened at top and bottom, and features grip areas with grey contrasting topstitching. Exclusive AMG emblems are embossed into the head restraints of the front AMG sports seats. All E 63 AMG models are characterised by outstanding material quality, excellent quality of finish and an exclusive atmosphere. One eye-catching feature is the new, AMG-specific analogue clock in IWC design. Another very special highlight is the optional Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system with Dolby Digital 5.1 reproduction for an exclusive listening experience with the highest sound quality.
