The deep-blue sea stretches out ahead of the five superbly conditioned athletes in their black wet suits. There isn’t a wave in sight. Majorca is once again showing itself at its best and offering ideal training conditions for TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD. The team is preparing for the coming triathlon season under the pleasantly warm spring sun on the Spanish island. A two-kilometre swim is first on the training schedule today – in a few minutes time the five triathletes will be scything their way through the calm sea and giving it their all. The swim is followed by a mountainous 90-kilometre bike ride. The racing bikes are stowed in the team’s Mercedes-Benz V-Class. The versatile van is a key member of the professional triathlon team and an ever-present at all the contests and training sessions attended by TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD.

Eight-time Ironman winner.

A 3.8 kilometre swim, a 180-kilometre bike ride and precisely 42.195 kilometres of running: For a stint that could easily constitute a full week of training for an amateur athlete, Timo Bracht needed just seven hours and 59 minutes at the 2009 Ironman contest in Frankfurt. Ironman is the name given to this particularly gruelling version of the triathlon. Bracht won eight Ironman races as well as three European championship titles in the long-distance triathlon in his career. Furthermore he is current German champion.

The German is one of five triathletes in TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD, which last season competed under the name “Power Horse”.

A strong team.

Alongside Timo Bracht, there are four other top triathletes in TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD: Jan Raphael, Horst Reichel, Georg Potrebitsch and Julian Beuchert. Raphael was runner-up in the 2011 and 2013 Triathlon European Championship at the Ironman Frankfurt, while Reichel won Ironman Sweden in 2014. Georg Potrebitsch was 2011 German Champion in the long-distance triathlon. The youngest member of the team at 22 is Julian Beuchert, who in 2014 won the U25 European Championship at the Ironman 70.3 (half distance) in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Triathlon racing bikes are aerodynamic lightweights.

Not a gram too heavy.

Cycling covers the longest distance of the three disciplines in the triathlon. Every extra gram the athletes have to drag around with them costs valuable time and energy. The racing bikes used by TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD are all lightweights in the truest sense of the word: built by Giant, they weigh in at just 7.5 kilograms thanks to the use of carbon fibre. Almost all of the racing bike components are made from this extremely lightweight yet very strong material. They are also aerodynamically designed, from the all-carbon-fibre forks and wheels to the saddle post, which is also made of carbon fibre. These triathlon bikes are distinguishable by their special front section and handlebar combination that provides better support for the riders, which enables the athletes to adopt the most aerodynamic possible position over a long distance. With it Timo Bracht rides the competition distance of 180 kilometres with an average speed of 41 km/h.

The V-Class: An ideal training partner.

To be successful in a triathlon, the athletes have to be versatile, the material reliable and the preparation perfect. With its powerful yet economical diesel engine, the new V-Class is right at home in this demanding environment. Mercedes-Benz supports TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD throughout the entire triathlon season by providing several V-Class models. They are used as support vehicles during training sessions and at contests.

Full speed ahead into the new season.

TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD enjoyed a highly successful start to the 2015 season in the Challenge Fuerteventura at the end of April. This event comprised a 1.9-kilometre swim, 90 kilometres on the bike and 21 kilometres of running. Horst Reichel finished twelfth and Timo Bracht fourth. There are a total of more than 30 competitions during the season, including eight Ironman events. Season highlights for TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD alongside the Challenge Roth on 12 July and Ironman Hawaii on 10 October include Ironman Majorca and Ironman 70.3 on the island of Rügen – both of these events take place in September. TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD wants to have two and three athletes taking part respectively.

TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD for Laureus.

As its name suggests, TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD is not "just" there to win. With its sporting activities, the team aims to raise awareness of children's aid projects organised by the Laureus Sport For Good Foundation. The Laureus Foundation sponsors and supports disadvantaged or sick children with its social sports projects. During the course of the season there will be several campaigns aimed at generating interest in the Foundation and encouraging participants and spectators to donate to the cause.

4 Angaben zu Kraftstoffverbrauch, Stromverbrauch und CO₂-Emissionen sind vorläufig und wurden vom Technischen Dienst für das Zertifizierungsverfahren nach Maßgabe des WLTP-Prüfverfahrens ermittelt und in NEFZ-Werte korreliert. Eine EG-Typgenehmigung und Konformitätsbescheinigung mit amtlichen Werten liegen noch nicht vor. Abweichungen zwischen den Angaben und den amtlichen Werten sind möglich.
