Electrified complete solution.

The new Vito with electric drive is now available to order. It marks the first step towards the electrification of all commercial model ranges offered by Mercedes-Benz Vans. This is set against the backdrop of the increasingly complex demands being made of transport vehicles in the business sector. Mercedes-Benz Vans showcased a number of solutions at the eDrive@VANs Workshop on 20 and 21 November in Berlin – based on the notion of vehicles as carriers of modern mobility concepts created with customers for customers. Representatives from politics, trade associations and the media had the chance to find out more at two workshops and on extensive test drives with the new eVito, with the focus on its quality and performance as a total-system solution within the Mercedes-Benz Vans ecosystem.

A logical step.

“We are utterly convinced by the electric drive in our vans, especially in inner-city applications. At the same time, the electrification of the commercial vehicle fleet is in no way an end in itself. In terms of commercial feasibility, it’s subject to exactly the same principles as classic drives. With our eDrive@VANs initiative, we’re showing that only holistic solutions extending beyond the powertrain itself present a real alternative for commercial customers. The new eVito is the starting point. It will be followed by the third generation of the Sprinter and the Citan, too,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

From cars to vans.

Mercedes-Benz Vans launched the new eVito at the “Holistic Van Solution” workshop at Bridge Studios on Spreeufer in Berlin, and invited participants to take it for a test drive. The new eVito achieves an electric range of around 150 kilometres. The motor has an output of 84 kW with up to 300 Nm of torque. The intelligent operating strategy enables a number of different driving modes and individually adjustable recuperation levels for optimum use of battery capacity. To save space, the batteries are mounted beneath the load floor, meaning the load space can be used to its full extent for things like intelligent shelving systems.

Electric drive is less expensive than diesel in the long term.

At the “eDrive Ecosystem” workshop, which took place at the ADAC driving safety facility located at Berlin’s Tegel Airport, Mercedes-Benz Vans demonstrated that powerful electric drives alone are not enough to fulfill the sector’s transport needs. Commercial feasibility is crucial when it comes to using vehicles as part of a business model. The higher initial purchase price is offset by lower energy and maintenance costs as well as tax savings. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz Vans works directly with the customer to offer tailormade system solutions – from connectivity solutions and optimum route planning in real time, to the TCO tool for the analysis of driving style, to training programmes for electric-vehicle drivers. This approach integrates the vehicle into a holistic ecosystem.
