  • The new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
    1

The new Sprinter combines precision with latest technology.

An innovative production process together with new assistance and safety systems make the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter better and more versatile than ever.

Innovative processes thanks to industry 4.0.

The new Sprinter is primarily manufactured at the competence centres in Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde as well as at plants in Argentina and USA. As such, Mercedes-Benz is the only manufacturer in the comparable van segment that still produces vehicles in Germany.

Martin Kelterer from Mercedes-Benz Vans Operations Engineering ensures that the production procedures are transferred globally. “Reacting more quickly to market needs and customer requirements – that is our job. Industry 4.0 is a great help in this regard”, explains Kelterer.

Modified production process.

In addition to expanding the diverse storage options along with the new assistance and safety systems, the new Sprinter generation is also distinguished by its front-wheel drive, available for the first time. Converting the manufacturing process always involves major challenges, explains Armin Willy. He is responsible for managing the production at the Düsseldorf competence centre. Utilizing new technologies such as virtual reality requires intensive coaching for the employees before production commences.

Everything is a question of quality.

For the quality manager, Andreas Rein, customer satisfaction is the most important aspect. “We have monitored the field behaviour of the operating Sprinter and attempted to contribute the greatest possible input.” Alongside the quality of the workmanship, the overall impression of the vehicle also plays a role:

“You have to be able to see the love of detail in every aspect. This is what distinguishes Mercedes-Benz”, sums up Rein.
