Highway Pilot: more alert and attentive than any driver.

Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, member of the Daimler AG Board of Management, and Winfried Kretschmann, Minister-President of the state of Baden-Württemberg, made a historic journey on 2 October 2015. As driver and co-driver, they piloted the world’s first series-production autonomous truck along the German A8 Autobahn between Denkendorf and Stuttgart. The truck used for the premiere was a standard Mercedes-Benz Actros, equipped with the intelligent Highway Pilot system for this test of autonomous driving on public roads.

Step by step to autonomous driving.

In July 2014 Mercedes-Benz had its Future Truck 2025 driven on a test track near Magdeburg and in May 2015 the world premiere of the Freightliner Inspiration Truck caused a sensation when Daimler presented the first truck with a permit for operation on public roads capable of driving in a highly automated fashion.
