    Concept EQ – Mobility revisited.

Electric mobility: Mercedes-Benz flips the switch.

EQ: The new brand for electric mobility.

At the Paris Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz unveiled its new product brand for electric mobility: EQ. The name EQ stands for “Electric Intelligence” and is derived from the Mercedes-Benz brand values of “Emotion and Intelligence”. The new brand encompasses all key aspects for customer-focused electric mobility and extends beyond the vehicle itself. EQ offers a comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem of products, services, technologies and innovations. The spectrum ranges from electric vehicles to wallboxes and charging services to home energy storage units.

The new brand is heralded by the close-to-production concept vehicle “Concept EQ”, which celebrated its world premiere in Paris. The first series-produced EQ model will be launched in the SUV segment before the end of this decade.

EQ: Clear orientation for customers.

The EQ portfolio will encompass all future battery-electric cars as well as the associated products and services from Mercedes-Benz. In this way, the inventor of the motorcar is providing a simple and transparent means of orientation for customers within its ever expanding portfolio. The EQ brand is therefore the next logical step in the sales and marketing strategy “Best Customer Experience”.

Mercedes-Benz already offers a suitable charging infrastructure for electric cars, including a wallbox as a fast-charging station for the home, the free app “Charge&Pay” for convenient recharging at public charging stations as well as – for home-owners and businesses – stationary energy storage units for power generated by photovoltaic or solar systems. All these products and services will in the future be bundled under EQ. In this way, Mercedes-Benz is creating a consistent and clear image for sustainable products and services with the star.

Showcar in Paris: “Concept EQ”.

With “Concept EQ”, Mercedes-Benz shows how electric cars can soon move into the fast lane: the concept vehicle with the appearance of a sporty SUV coupé gives a preview of a new generation of vehicles with battery-electric drives. The dynamic exterior design with its new electro-look underlines the focus on the powerful electric drive system: two electric motors, with a system output that can be increased to up to 300 kW thanks to scalable battery components, and permanent all-wheel drive deliver the guarantee of dynamic high-level performance.

With a range of up to 500 kilometres and the typical Mercedes-Benz strengths of safety, comfort, functionality and connectivity, “Concept EQ” meets every demand in terms of contemporary, sustainable mobility. Also on the inside, the vehicle offers innovative solutions, including a completely new interior concept. Celebrating its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show, “Concept EQ” is the forerunner of Mercedes-Benz’s new product brand for electric mobility, EQ.

CASE: Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electric.

“The mobility of the future at Mercedes-Benz will stand on four pillars: Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric. ‘Concept EQ’ is the logical fusion of all four pillars,” says Dr Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The emission-free automobile is the future. And our new EQ brand goes far beyond electric vehicles. EQ stands for a comprehensive electric ecosystem of services, technologies and innovations.”

The new generation of electric vehicles will be based on an architecture developed specifically for battery-electric models, which is scalable in every respect and usable across all models.

Design with new electro-look.

“Concept EQ is hot and cool,” says Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG. “Its fascination lies in a reinterpretation of our design philosophy of sensual purity, the aim being to create an avant-garde, contemporary and distinctive electro-look. At the same time, the design of the visionary show car, which has been reduced to the essentials, reveals an alluring progressivity.” The monolithic basic form of “Concept EQ” unites the genes of an SUV with the dynamic character of a coupé and a dash of shooting brake at the rear end.

Muscular-purist proportions.

The squat, elongated greenhouse gives rise to muscular-purist proportions. The new electro-look is the result of a flowing transition from the gleaming black bonnet across the windscreen to the dark-tinted panoramic roof – an exciting contrast to the alubeam silver paintwork. Scarcely visible body panel joints, concealed windscreen wipers, cameras instead of exterior mirrors and an absence of conventional door handles emphasise the stretched, dynamic silhouette.

Interior: Avant-garde and functional.

The focus of the driver-oriented cockpit is on simple, touch-based controls with a new electro-look consistently reflecting the exterior styling. The asymmetrical design of the instrument panel with its large, floating wide-screen display is tailored to the driver. The interior of “Concept EQ” is characterised by contemporary luxury, finding its main expression in an all-new user interface, which combines emotive appeal with intelligence and user-friendliness while dispensing with traditional switches and knobs, except for the electric seat adjustment typical of Mercedes-Benz. Bordered in rose gold, the centre console appears to float in space: dispensing with mechanical controls, it is equipped with touch-sensitive elements. Similarly to the touch controls on the steering wheel, the driver can use a finger to operate the automatic climate control and the infotainment system.

EQ: The new e-mobility brand.

The close-to-production concept vehicle “Concept EQ” marks the launch of an architecture for battery-electric vehicles across all models. Dieter Zetsche: “In 2007, the e-smart was a pioneer of electric motoring. We’re now flipping the switch. We’re ready for the launch of an electric product offensive that will cover all vehicle segments, from the compact to the luxury class.”

The coming models embody the essentials of state-of-the-art electric mobility – the fusion of appealing design, exceptional driving pleasure, high everyday practicality and maximum safety, typical of every vehicle manufactured by the inventor of the motorcar.

Stuttgart/Paris. The new smart electric drive makes opting into electric mobility more attractive than ever. This is because it combines the agility of the smart with local emission-free driving – the ideal combination for urban mobility. Fourth-generation electric driving pleasure can be experienced not only in the smart fortwo coupé and smart fortwo cabrio, but for the first time also in the four-seater smart forfour. In future smart will be the only car manufacturer worldwide to offer its model range with both combustion engines and pure battery-electric drive. The smart electric drive will celebrate its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show (1 to 16 October 2016), while the market launch will start in the USA in December 2016 and in Europe in early 2017. In Germany prices for the smart fortwo electric drive will start at € 21,940 (recommended retail price including 19% VAT).

smart electric drive: combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; Power concumption weighted: 13.1–12.9 kWh/100 km.*

'The smart is the perfect city car, and with electric drive it becomes a little bit more perfect', says Annette Winkler, Head of smart. 'This is why we will soon be offering our entire range – smart fortwo, smart cabrio and even our smart forfour – as all-electric versions. Together with lots of smart fans and enthusiastic drivers of the three predecessor generations, we are looking forward to the unique driving fun offered by the new smart electric drive. And at very attractive prices, especially in countries where there is a buyer's premium.'

The driving characteristics are as agile and lively as ever. The ultra- small turning circle also contributes to this, and at 6.95 metres for the two-seater it corresponds precisely to that of its sibling with conventional drive. And every wish will be catered for with regard to colours and optional equipment – electric driving at smart offers maximum scope for customisation.

The charging time is an important factor for electric vehicle customers and the new smart electric drive also boasts major improvements here. All models have a new, powerful on-board charger as a standard feature. In the USA and Great Britain the charging time is 2.5 hours – half as long as for the predecessor. With the “smart control” app the charging process can be conveniently monitored from afar and many more functions such as intelligent charging can be controlled. From 2017 a particularly powerful 22 kW fast charger will be available as an option. This enables the smart electric drive to be charged much more quickly: in less than 45 minutes if local conditions allow three-phase charging.

The smart fortwo electric drive models are series produced at smart’s Hambach plant. The smart forfour electric drive is produced at the Novo Mesto site (Slovenia). The smart is equipped with a battery from the Daimler subsidiary Deutsche ACCUMOTIVE. The company based in Kamenz, Saxony, has been building the electric heart of the smart electric drive since 2012.

Combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km;

power consumption weighted: 17.9–16.6 kWh/100 km.*

Confident driving pleasure.

The new B 250 e has a surprise in store with its very special dynamic driving experience: it really accelerates powerfully and glides over the road with hardly a sound. The driver and passengers in the B 250 e can enjoy accustomed high driving comfort in a high-quality, precision-built, generously spacious interior.

The new Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive.

The B 250 e combines dynamism and driving pleasure with zero emissions locally. In short: this is electric driving at premium level.

Powerful drive with a kick.

Quiet, locally zero-emission drive is provided by a 132 kW-strong electric motor which – typical of electric drive – delivers the maximum torque of 340 newton metres right from the moment the accelerator pedal is touched; that corresponds to the torque of a modern three-litre petrol engine. The result is truly powerful acceleration from zero. Even on the standard sprint from zero to 100 km/h, the electrically powered B-Class only takes 7.9 seconds. Confident driving and pleasure at a high dynamic level are thus guaranteed in any situation. The energy supply to the electric drive is provided by a powerful lithium-ion battery. It is stored safely in a space-saving manner in the so-called “Energy Space” in the vehicle underbody. Thanks to this intelligent packaging, the five-seater can still retain the renowned generous interior and boot space (501 l – 1456 l) of the B-Class.

Zero-emission on long journeys too.

The top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h in order to increase the range. This is approximately 200 kilometres, depending on the drive cycle. This means that not only zero-emission urban and local driving is easy, but also longer journeys – such as many commuters’ daily journeys to work in rush-hour traffic. The B 250 e can be recharged at any household power point. For a range of 100 kilometres, the charging time is less than 1.5 hours at 400V/ 16A in Europe. When driving in overrun mode, the electric drive itself contributes towards a favourable energy balance by means of recuperation, transforming kinetic energy into electric current which is fed into the battery. The optionally radar-supported recuperative brake system can automatically increase the energy regeneration (recuperation) depending on the driving situation, or set it to zero (DAuto mode). The different drive modes (D-, D, D+) can be selected using the steering wheel buttons.

Reliable and fast loading.

To enable a quick and convenient loading of the B 250 e, Mercedes-Benz offers a so called the wall box on the retailer's - the fast charger for home, and at request a customer installation service. Here the local conditions are checked first in an on-site check and then installed the wallbox from our partners.

Find out more about the various charging options and check in the Online Pre-Check the requirements for installing a wall box in your home at www.mercedes-benz.com/charging (Available from October 2014 in Europe)

Sporty interior with fine details.

The interior is true to Mercedes-Benz high comfort standards. Fine-quality materials and finely structured surfaces, exquisite details and precise working make it clear that electric driving is defined by the discerning philosophy of Mercedes-Benz. The three large circular vents in the middle and their unique cruciform nozzles are sporty attributes that contribute to the emotional design idiom of the interior. Above the vents, the monitor which appears to float freely stands for the telematic system – a modern eye-catcher in the cockpit.

The information and communication systems of the electric B-Class provide comfort and functionality restricted to higher vehicle ranges Functions specific to electric vehicles complement the instruments of the B 250 e. The performance display in the right-hand dial stands out.

The best connections: Mercedes me connect.

Thanks to the latest technology, the B 250 e is not only sustainable (because it is a locally zero-emission vehicle) and agile (high-torque and therefore with a kick): it is also well connected. The Mercedes me connect enables easy remote polling and vehicle configuration. The driver can gain internet access to the vehicle easily via computer or smartphone. This means that you can request the current battery charge status or the current range. Also, the planned route can be displayed. Thus you can see at a glance where you can recharge, if necessary. The range is supplemented by the possibility to preheat the vehicle to an individually selectable time or pre-cool it. If the preconditioning is used while charging, not only the comfort increases, but also the effective range, since the secondary consumers (eg air conditioning) are less stressed while driving.

Strong emphasis on safety.

The usual high safety standards apply to the Mercedes-Benz B 250 e. Thanks to innovative 'Energy Space', the battery is located in a crashproof position in the vehicle underbody. Also, Mercedes-Benz has already equipped the innovative electric vehicle with radar-supported COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS collision warning with adaptive brake support.

What is more, there are various modern driver assistance systems available – including Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Active Parking Assist.
