Sharing is the new owning.

Using cars instead of owning them.

Travelling with a car without owning one isn’t something inconceivable anymore. CAR2SHARE opens wonderful possibilities for anyone who wants to stay flexible and enjoy the comfort of a car. The project started in January 2013 with the launch of the initiative for peer-to-peer car sharing in Germany in cooperation with the German market leader Autonetzer GmbH. In March of the same year, the project was expanded in Hamburg by providing a car-sharing pool for residential use and small businesses in Hamburg-Harburg. The users were able to enjoy using a car-sharing pool with combustion and electric-drive vehicles.

Pilot in China.

CAR2SHARE went global in December 2013 by launching the pilot in China as an exclusive car-sharing service for the employees of Tencent, a well-known Chinese internet company. Tailored to the heavy mobility demand centred around condensed office buildings, the station-based CAR2SHARE programme offers a unique combination of online booking and at-location pickup.

CAR2SHARE members may book the vehicle online for the time to be used, pick it up at the dedicated CAR2SHARE parking place at Tencent’s office building, and simply drive away, for a few hours of business meetings, a night out with friends or a weekend getaway. When they come back to work, the car can be returned just as simply.

Payment is always done on return via Wechat Pay by simply scanning a uniquely generated Quick Response code. Prices are competitive to taxis, being based on a simple and transparent pricing system and including fuelling by on-site service staff. Tencent’s employees are charged on an hourly rate; favourable overnight and weekend rates apply to longer rental periods. In each case, a small additional fee is due per kilometre. The drivers are not required to enter into any long-term contractual commitment, and there is no joining or minimum-usage fee. For first-time users, even a safety driving training course is offered by Daimler. For further information please visit CAR2SHARE Germany, CAR2SHARE China or join us on Wechat (car2share).
