Mercedes-Benz is pursuing a forward-looking, three-lane drive train strategy comprising electric vehicles powered by batteries or fuel cells, hybrid models (EQ Power) and electrified, high-tech combustion engines. In this way, we offer the right solution for your fleet whatever your needs.

Fully electric vehicles.

The first fully electric EQ vehicles from Mercedes-Benz Cars were the new smart models in 2017. With the Mercedes-Benz GLC F-CELL, Daimler is also sending a clear signal regarding the future of fuel cell technology. Daimler is marking the start of a new era in 2019 with the Mercedes-Benz EQC. This will be followed by an entire family of electric vehicles ranging from compact cars to the luxury segment. One crucial step in this regard is the development of an electric vehicle architecture for any model of battery-powered vehicle.

Plug-in hybrids.

Plug-in hybrids are a key technology as we progress towards the locally emissions-free future of the automobile. At Mercedes-Benz they bear the EQ Power technology label in order to underscore their important role in the electrification of the automobile. Plug-in hybrids offer customers the benefits of both worlds: they run entirely on electrical power in the city, while on long journeys they benefit from the range of the combustion engine in combination with the electric propulsion system. This results in improved efficiency, a more comfortable driving experience and handling, and a long range. Since the benefits of plug-in hybrids come particularly to the fore in larger vehicles and with mixed route profiles, Mercedes-Benz is currently backing this form of propulsion for the C-Class and above. The smart, modular hybrid concept from Mercedes-Benz is an important advantage in the hybrid initiative.

It has a scalable design and can be carried over to a host of model series and body styles as well as to left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive variants in rear-wheel-drive vehicles. Hybridisation makes the combustion engine more efficient while also enhancing handling and enjoyment. The combination of a state-of-the-art diesel engine and a hybrid system that can be charged externally sets new standards in terms of consumption, performance, comfort and emissions. The alliance between the OM 654 four-cylinder diesel engine and the next-generation 9G-TRONIC hybrid transmission promises to enhance the experience of locally emissions-free mobility while also offering an emotional and enjoyable driving experience. The key figures are an electric output of 90 kW, 440 Nm of additional electric torque and an electric range of about 50 kilometres in the NEDC.

The new Mercedes-Benz OM 654 is the first member of a modular-construction engine family which will be used across the entire product portfolio.

New generation of diesel engines.

State-of-the-art diesel technology from A to S. Following the introduction of the new generation of diesel engines in the E-Class (four-cylinder OM 654) and the S-Class (six-cylinder OM 656) as well as the four-cylinder OM 608 in the new A-Class, the new Mercedes-Benz diesel engines are now available from the compact to the luxury class. The transverse-mounted version of the latest premium diesel engine family makes its debut in the new B-Class. Despite its lower displacement – just under two litres – the around 16 percent lighter new diesel engine puts out more than the previous engine. On the inside, the OM 654q offers efficiency-enhancing technological highlights such as steel pistons with stepped bowls in an aluminium block. The cylinder liners are coated using the further-improved NANOSLIDE® process. The OM 654q is already Euro 6d certified.

Highly efficient combustion engine.

The optimisation of modern combustion engines plays an important role at Mercedes-Benz. Electrification and a 48-volt on-board electrical system allow reductions in consumption that had previously been the sole preserve of hybrid technology. Mercedes-Benz refers to this technology as EQ Boost. The 48-volt on-board electrical system makes it possible to implement important hybrid functions such as “recuperate”, “boost” and “coast” for the first time without high-voltage components thanks to the integrated or belt-driven starter alternator. This makes it possible to significantly reduce consumption. In addition to reducing consumption and CO2, the 48-volt on-board electrical system also facilitates extra comfort because it can rev a combustion engine up to idle smoothly. This improves the NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) profile, and the transition when the engine starts is even quieter.

The integrated starter-generator (ISG), which Mercedes-Benz is the first manufacturer to integrate into production vehicles, plays an important part in improving the efficiency of combustion engines. The ISG combines a starter and an alternator in a powerful electric motor between the engine and the transmission, and is also used in cold starts. It replaces both the generator and the starter. The use of a belt-driven starter-generator (BSG) with a 48-volt on-board electrical system is another step towards the electrification of propulsion. The BSG is connected to the engine in the same way that the generator usually is. This means that the system uses the existing generator mountings, and does not interfere with the design of the drive train.

The new B-Class: new generation, new engine.

Rediscover the B-Class: a more spacious interior, pioneering MBUX multimedia system, advanced driver assistance systems and a double debut in the powertrain. The efficient engines all meet the Euro 6d-TEMP limits - the new two-litre diesel OM 654q even complies with Euro 6d, which will apply from 2020. The eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is also making its debut.

Plug-in hybrids are an important milestone on the road to zero-emissions driving. Mercedes‑Benz Cars is pushing ahead with the development of its plug-in hybrids under the EQ Power label. With the A 250 e, A 250 e Saloon and B 250 e models from the compact-car family with the third-generation hybrid drive are now celebrating their premiere. The A 250 e and A 250 e Saloon can be ordered now. Sale of the B 250 e starts a few weeks later. The EQ Power for the A- and B-Class underscores Mercedes-Benz’s plug-in initiative: the company aims to extend its offering to more than 20 model variants by 2020.

Mercedes‑Benz Cars is continually increasing its range of plug-in hybrids under the EQ Power label. With the CLA 250 e Coupé, CLA 250 e Shooting Brake and GLA 250 e, Mercedes-Benz is completing the range of EQ Power models in the compact-car family with the third-generation hybrid drive system. The new models can be ordered in spring of this year, with the market launch following just a few weeks later.

Eine EG-Typgenehmigung und Konformitätsbescheinigung mit amtlichen Werten liegen noch nicht vor. Abweichungen zwischen den Angaben und den amtlichen Werten sind möglich.
