The Citan: four powerful models.

The Citan stands out with its broad range of engine options. The city delivery van from Mercedes-Benz is available with four powerful engines: three diesel variants in the 108 CDI, 109 CDI and 111 CDI and the Citan 112 with a gasoline engine. The power output starts out with 55 kW (75 PS) in the 108 CDI. The diesel engine in the Citan 109 CDI delivers 66 kW (90 PS). The top-of-the-line model with a diesel engine is the Citan 111 CDI. At 4,000 rpm, it provides 81 kW (110 PS) with a displacement of 1.5 litres.

Citan 111 CDI – the powerful option with high torque.

The Citan 111 CDI has an exceptional engine speed range. Capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.3 seconds, the van is a spirited workhorse. Its maximum speed of 170 km/h makes it the perfect option for long distances. At the same time, the Citan 111 CDI also numbers among the cleanest and most economical vehicles in its class: when equipped with the optional BlueEFFICIENCY package, it achieves an outstanding fuel consumption as low as 4.4 l/100 km. Its heart is the four-cylinder OM 607 diesel engine with a displacement of exactly 1,461 cm³. The design with long piston strokes provides the foundation for its excellent torque (bore/stroke: 76.0/80.5 mm).

Highly responsive even at low engine speeds.

The Citan 111 CDI’s electronically controlled direct injection utilizes high-precision, extremely fast piezo injectors based on a common rail system with a maximum injection pressure of 1,600 bar. The turbocharger makes the Citan highly responsive even at low engine speeds and maintains its high torque throughout a wide engine speed range. The engine is renowned for its excellent running performance and a six-speed manual transmission is a standard feature in the 111 CDI. Even at high speeds, its engine remains well below the nominal speed: at a speed of 100 km/h in top gear, the engine only runs at 2,150 rpm.

Diesel or gasoline? In addition to three diesel models, Mercedes-Benz also offers the Citan with a gasoline engine.

Highly efficient Euro V diesel engines.

The Citan’s diesel engines deliver a convincing combination of exceptionally low fuel consumption, high overall economy together with comfortably smooth running. All of the engines fulfil the Euro V emission standard. The Citan 108 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and the Citan 109 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY achieve a combined consumption of only 4.3 l/100 km as per the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) – the most economical value in its class! The Citan 108 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and the Citan 109 CDI only emit 112 g/km CO2, making them gentle on the environment in the city and suburbs, where the Citan is typically used.

The diesel engines deliver their maximum power output at 4,000 rpm and achieve their maximum torque at only 1,750 rpm. The engines continue to provide their maximum torque throughout a broad speed range. This characteristic gives rise to the vehicle’s excellent agility and responsiveness across a wide engine speed spectrum. The toothed belt driving the camshaft has a service life of 240,000 km/10 years and the 40,000 km maintenance intervals are very high. Together with the exceptionally low fuel consumption, this results in very low operating costs.

The Citan 112: a gasoline model with the torque of a diesel.

The alternative to the diesel engines is a compact powerhouse: the Citan 112 with its gasoline engine delivers 84 kW (114 PS), achieving maximum performance with the smallest displacement (1,192 cm³) in the entire series. The four-cylinder gasoline engine with a light, aluminium crankcase features a convincing design with four-valve technology, two top-mounted camshafts, electronically controlled direct injection, an exhaust-gas turbocharger along with a three-way catalytic converter for exhaust purification. At only 1,500 rpm, the M 200.71 gasoline engine generates more than 170 Nm – 90% of the engine’s maximum output. With a maximum torque of 190 Nm, it achieves the high performance of diesel engines. The agile and high performance turbocharged gasoline engine with direct injection and a three-way catalytic converter also fulfils the Euro V emission standard.

Broad-spread six-speed transmission.

With a maximum speed of 173 km/h and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.7 seconds, the Citan 112 is one of the fastest city delivery vans. Its standard six-speed manual transmission makes it responsive even at low engine speeds and higher velocities – this results in low fuel consumption, low emissions and low noise. The combined fuel consumption amounts to 6.1 l/100 km with a CO2 emission of 140 g/km. The standard features also include a controlled oil pump that runs at two pressure levels as needed together with BlueEFFICIENCY technology featuring an ECO start-stop function. This automatically switches off the engine during waiting phases. The function activates when the transmission is in neutral, the clutch pedal is not pressed down and at speeds below 4 km/h. The engine starts the moment the vehicle starts to roll again or the driver depresses the clutch pedal.

The engines in the Citan not only run efficiently but are also gentle on the environment.
