Fuel cell technology is an integral element of the Daimler AG powertrain strategy. Because the advantages are obvious: a high range combined with short refuelling times. From 2017, a new generation of vehicles will come out based on the Mercedes-Benz GLC. The GLC F-CELL has a large lithium-ion battery. With a capacity of approx. nine kWh, it provides an additional source of energy for the electric motor and can also be externally charged for the first time thanks to plug-in technology. The combined fuel cell-battery system offers a maximum amount of efficiency and convenience. The GLC F-CELL achieves a combined range of approx. 500 km in the NEDC.

An electric motor and a combustion motor provide acceleration for the plug-in hybrid. With this concept, it is possible to charge the car's HV battery at a mains socket or a charging station, in addition to recuperation. The high-performance lithium-ion HV battery enables the car to cover longer distances in all-electric mode. Mercedes-Benz has created a modular system for its plug-in hybrids. Four- or six-cylinder petrol engines are combined with hybrid modules and batteries with varying levels of performance.

  • Up to 33 km of driving in all-electric mode possible.
  • Extremely low consumption, in particular in city traffic, in all-electric mode.
  • Battery can be charged via a mains socket, recuperation and the motor.
