Electric First.

Mercedes-Benz and CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited) have entered the next stage of their strategic partnership and will create cutting-edge battery technology in support of the high-volume electrification of the Mercedes-Benz model portfolio. The Stuttgart-based luxury car maker with the three-pointed star is accelerating its "Electric First" strategy with advanced, CO₂-neutrally produced battery cells, modules and systems supplied by CATL, a technology leader in lithium-ion batteries. The agreement covers the full range of battery technologies, from cells across modules for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars to entire battery systems for Mercedes-Benz Vans in promising innovative technology configurations. This also includes the CATL cell-to-pack (CTP) design, which eliminates conventional modules and integrates the cells directly into the battery.

Plug-in hybrids deliver everyday electric mobility.

Mercedes-Benz is appealing to a broad customer base with an ever-increasing number of models in its line-up offering plug-in hybrid technology. This trend is making an important contribution on the path to CO₂‑neutral mobility that Mercedes-Benz is committed to pursuing as part of its decarbonisation strategy. Plug-in hybrid vehicles offer the option of running on electricity only and thus with zero local emissions, especially in urban areas. EQ Power models are parallel hybrids that can also be charged from external electricity networks (plug-in). The powertrain consists of an electric drive and an internal combustion engine working in tandem and able to power the vehicle either individually or together. Plug-in hybrids thus offer a fast and straightforward entry into electric mobility – without being dependent upon a fully functioning, nationwide charging infrastructure. Mercedes-Benz is systematically expanding its plug-in-hybrid line-up and will offer more than 20 model variants by the end of the year – from A-Class to S-Class, from GLA to GLE.

The new E-Class.

Automotive intelligence is now getting exciting and dynamic: the Mercedes-Benz E-Class models likewise feature a comprehensive range of enhancements. The styling has been sportily honed with the front sections, in particular, being given a fresh look. Both models have been available from our European distribution partners since 3 June.

E as in efficiency: The electrification of the powertrain takes another major step forward with the model update of the E-Class. Seven models are available as plug-in hybrids (diesel and petrol, Saloon and Estate, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive). The line-up of high-efficiency, low-emission and powerful petrol engines will cover a range from 115 to 270 kW, while the spectrum of diesel vehicles spans from 118 to 243 kW.

For the first time, a four-cylinder petrol engine (M 254) with second-generation integrated starter-generator (ISG) producing up to 15 kW of additional output and 180 Nm more torque will complement the engine range. Models equipped with this engine will have a 48-volt on-board electrical system. Thanks to energy recovery and the ability to "glide" with the engine switched off, the petrol engine is highly efficient.

The S-Class stands for the fascination of Mercedes-Benz: legendary and traditional engineering expertise defines the luxury segment in the automobile industry. The new S-Class can be experienced with all the senses – seeing, feeling, hearing and smelling – while offering numerous innovations in the areas of driver assistance, protection and interaction. Mercedes-Benz is shaping the next generation of individual mobility for our times with innovations that place the focus on people. The new S-Class uses digitisation for a car that responds empathetically to the needs and wishes of its driver and passengers.
